At Mutemwa, Compassion Arrived in Every Box

A journey of love in action

The journey to Mutemwa Care Centre in Zimbabwe carried more than donated goods. It carried a promise: that people living with illness, disability and isolation deserve to be met with dignity, companionship and practical care.

Human Aid First partnered with House of Prayer Fellowship for a fundraising drive inspired by the call to put love into action. Together, supporters gathered clothing, blankets, mealie meal and maize, powdered milk, margarine, wound-care supplies, bandages, washing powder, adult diapers, cakes and treats. Each item answered an everyday need. Together, they became something larger—a visible sign that the residents and caregivers of Mutemwa are remembered.

When HAF went to Mutemwa and delivered the donated goods, the moment closed the distance between generosity and the people it was meant to serve. Hands that had packed and carried supplies were joined, in spirit, with hands receiving them. Care became tangible.

More than goods: dignity

Mutemwa is home to 34 resident patients living with a range of illnesses and disabilities, including people affected by leprosy. The most infirm residents receive around-the-clock care in rooms near the clinic, while more independent residents live in surrounding homes, some with their families. The onsite clinic also serves people from nearby communities.

Behind these numbers are individuals whose lives contain humour, faith, memories, relationships and hope. A clean bandage supports healing. An adult diaper protects comfort and dignity. Washing powder helps maintain hygiene. A blanket offers warmth. A cake or treat brings a moment of celebration into a place where daily life can be demanding.

This is why HAF’s visit mattered. Humanitarian care is not only about keeping someone alive; it is about affirming the worth of the person who is living.

Why Mutemwa needs continuing support

Mutemwa relies on generous donations to maintain essential food, medical care and clothing. Its wider work also includes community projects designed to increase self-reliance through livestock, beekeeping and vegetable growing. Yet ongoing care still depends on people who choose not to look away.

The goods delivered by Human Aid First and House of Prayer met real needs, but one delivery cannot be the end of the story. Food is used. Wound-care materials run out. Clothing wears thin. Blankets and hygiene supplies must be replenished. The need continues, and so must compassion.

Donations in Action

This visit is Human Aid First’s promise in practice. It shows the path we want every donation to take: from a generous heart, through responsible partnership, into practical support that protects health, comfort and dignity.

We are deeply grateful to House of Prayer Fellowship, to every person who donated an item, prayed, shared the drive or helped with the journey, and to the residents and caregivers of Mutemwa who welcomed HAF. Your kindness turned a fundraising appeal into goods placed where they could be used.

Help the next act of care begin

Please help Human Aid First build on this visit. Give toward the next delivery of food, clothing, blankets, hygiene essentials and wound-care supplies, or share this story with someone who believes every person deserves dignity. Your gift—large or small—can help keep a resident warm, support a caregiver and remind the Mutemwa community that they are not alone. Let this delivery be the beginning of a lasting circle of compassion.
